Career Exploration

Turn assessment results into clear career direction

Pathways is a powerful career exploration tool that connects skills, work preferences, and real labour-market data to identify occupations where individuals are most likely to thrive.

It generates a personalized, ranked list of nearly 300 careers, showing the strongest matches first. Each time a new assessment is completed or preferences are updated, the results refresh automatically—keeping recommendations current, relevant, and aligned with changing goals.

In a rapidly changing job market, we give organizations, counsellors, and learners what they need most: a scalable, cost-effective, and personalized approach to career discovery.

How Pathways works

  • Assessment results are compared to the skill requirements of 298 occupations.

Pathways measures the gap between a person’s current skill levels and those typically needed for each job, then ranks careers based on the closest overall match.

  • A short survey captures preferences related to work environment, tasks, and interests—such as working with people, data, or tools; structure versus flexibility; and hands-on versus analytical work.

  • Skills and interests are combined using a 60/40 weighted model, supported by thousands of background calculations. The result is a dynamic, personalized career list that evolves as individuals grow and learn.

What individuals receive

For every career, Pathways provides:

Plain-language job descriptions

Each career includes an easy-to-understand overview written in clear, accessible language. Individuals can quickly learn:

  • what the job involves day to day
  • the typical work environment
  • the kinds of skills and tasks required

This helps users understand whether a career truly fits their interests and abilities.

Real-Time Labour-Market Insight

Users can also explore live labour-market information through direct links to the Canada Job Bank, including:

  • wage ranges across Canada and by province
  • employment outlook and demand
  • current job postings in their region

This ensures career exploration is connected to real opportunities, not just theory.

Occupational Details

Pathways connects to the Government of Canada’s OaSIS occupational profiles, giving users access to trusted information about:

  • job duties and responsibilities
  • education or training requirements
  • interest and workstyle alignment

Because this information comes from a recognized federal source, individuals and counsellors can rely on it when making important career and training decisions.
